Patra is a Gujarati dish made by rolling colocasia leaves with Indian spices. It’s something I grew up eating and to this day one of my favourite Indian snacks! For this recipe, you’ll need pre-made tinned Patra, sesame seeds, mustard seeds and oil!
I love being able to share my childhood-favourite recipes with you all! I wanted to share this recipe with you because it’s so easy to make, it takes less than 15 minutes to cook. Using tinned Patra is so much easier than cooking it from scratch, but also this way you can make this recipe any time of the year. Tinned Patra is one of my staple pantry items! You can find tinned Patra at any Indian supermarket or Amazon!
You can enjoy this Patra recipe with a cup of Chai for breakfast or a midday snack.
Ingredients you’ll need for Patra:
This Patra recipe could not be more simple with the following ingredients:
- sesame seeds
- mustard seeds
- oil
- tinned patra
How to make Patra:
- Cut patra.
- Heat oil in pan.
- Add mustard seeds and temper until they start to pop.
- Add sesame seeds and sliced patra into the pan and cook for 10-20 minutes or until as crispy as you like!
- Enjoy with a cup of chai!
Where to find Patra:
You should be able to find tinned patra in any India store or even online.

- 2x350g tinned patra
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Slice tinned patra. (Check above for how I cut mine)
- Heat oil in a pan over low-medium heat.
- Add mustard seeds and temper until they start to pop.
- Add sliced patra and sesame seeds. Mix until well combined.
- Cover with a lid and cook for 10-20 minutes or until as crispy as you like! Stir frequently.
